YFU CBYX Scholars Head to Capitol Hill

Senator Lugar CBYX Scholars
Forty nine American high school students recently departed for Germany to spend the upcoming year immersed in German language and culture. The students are all participants in the prestigious YFU USA Congress Bundestag Youth Exchange Scholarship Program (CBYX).  Prior to departing, these teenagers visited Washington DC for an event filled program to help prepare them as cultural ambassadors of the United States.  Despite sweltering July heat in the nation’s Capitol, these students made the rounds on Capitol Hill to meet with their respective congressional members and attend a special meeting with Indiana Senator Richard Lugar, a strong proponent of international exchange and the key leader responsible for establishing the Congress Bundestag scholarship.  Students were also invited to meet with officials from the Department of State and the German Embassy.

During the meeting with Senator Lugar, YFU USA President Mike Finnell congratulated the students on joining a long line of CBYX and YFU USA alumni.  He reminded the students that although they were embarking on a similar journey, it was up to each individual to shape his/her own experience.  Click here for more information on the CBYX scholarship program.
