Benefits of Volunteering
YFU USA Tuition Discount
YFU USA offers tuition discounts for children of qualified host families (must have hosted a student for at least 6 months), volunteers (must have volunteered for 6 months), and alumni. The amount of tuition discount is based on the following guidelines:
- Discounts can be combined (i.e., you were a YFU Alumni and also hosted an exchange student) up to the maximum below.
- You can use either a YFU USA Tuition Discount or a Scholarship towards a qualified YFU USA Exchange Program, but not both.

Program Tuition Discount Example #1
Two years ago, a family hosted a YFU USA International Student (IS) from Germany. Since that time, one of the parents has been an active volunteer working with local schools, finding other host families, and placing students with families for at least one year.
Today, their twin daughters are both interested in attending YFU USA Year Programs. Because of their parents' affiliation with YFU USA, each twin is eligible for a $1,200 discount towards their program tuition.
Program Tuition Discount Example #2
Last year, a family hosted a YFU USA International Student (IS) from Japan.
Today, their son is interested in attending a YFU USA Semester Program. Their son won a $2,500 scholarship towards this program. Their son cannot use a tuition discount in this case because he won a scholarship.
