ABOUT THE PROGRAM
Youth For Understanding USA (YFU) is running short term programs for middle and high school students from around the world, with a focus on STEM. This is a support allowance-funded program, coordinated through YFU partners. During their two to three-week stay in the US, the students engage in English Language classes, educational activities, and a few social and cultural activities. They are placed with volunteer host families, who invite the students to be a part of their family for these few weeks. The students make ever-lasting bonds with other students, their host families, the volunteers, and the employees and contractors that work with them.
The program runs from Saturday, January 26 to Saturday, February 8, 2019.
RESPONSIBILITIES and ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The role of ESOL Teacher has two major parts: Pre-Program Class Preparation and Program Execution. The ESOL Teacher will create lesson plans that integrate the activities and themes of the program (STEM) and teach ESOL instruction classes for students based on their English level.
CONTRACT OBJECTIVE
Create and deliver a meaningful English learning experience for all students to the US through careful planning to help them improve English skills with a focus on program themes and reflection.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Serve as ESOL teacher during contracted term.
Plan and compile curriculum of ESOL classes based on students’ English levels.
Deliver 6 sessions of English instruction, each session 3 hours. Classes will be project-learning based and focused on practical application in a community setting. The final class will be focused on their presentations (see below).
Integrate small reflective assignments between classes to delve into program topics (mentioned above).
Coordinate with YFU Program Manager with class arrangements.
Organize and guide students in preparation for their final presentations which are held on the last day of English class. Provide feedback/questions after presentations.
SCHEDULE FOR PERFORMANCE
Six classroom sessions run from 1/26/2019 to 2/8/2019. Classes are on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, unless otherwise noted in the work order. Each session is 3 hours in length, and begins at 9AM or 1 PM. Preparation time is at the contractor’s discretion.
PAYMENT SCHEDULE
A payment of $675 will be provided in a lump sum after the conclusion of the program.
