Originally joining YFU as a host parent in 2002, Claire became an area representative in 2003, after volunteering to mediate for the local field. She became an area coordinator in 2008 and was certified as a national trainer for the organization in 2012. Schnurr has extensive board experience, both as a hockey registrar and as a past participant on the Special Education Advisory Council for the local school district. Claire graduated from Simpson College in 1979 with a degree in criminal justice and has a paralegal certificate obtained from the Minnesota Paralegal Institute in 1987. She currently works as a public servant. Schnurr sees her participation on the council as an opportunity to promote and provide continuing educational opportunities for volunteers across the country, helping to solidify YFU’s continued longevity and enhance the organization’s mission.
