The ideal candidate will provide technical guidance to the Chief of Staff relating to changes and developments of YFU’s IT systems and processes. In addition to possessing the technical knowledge to learn the back end of YFU’s IT systems, the IT Operations Manager can clearly and effectively communicate changes, issues, and outcomes to YFU stakeholder staff and customers. The IT Operations Manager has an overall understanding of YFU’s mission and organizational goals and makes decisions and recommendations to align the IT Department to those goals and budget considerations. The position can think strategically, but can also act with a direct hands-on-approach to resolve issues and interface professionally with customers.

Chief Executive Officer

The CEO is the key management leader of YFU USA, responsible for overseeing the administration, programs, and business plan of the organization. Other key duties include fundraising, partner relations, and community outreach. The position is based out of the National Office in Saginaw, Michigan, and reports directly to the Board of Trustees. While remote working is a possibility, regular physical presence in the National Office (at least 3 days a week) is expected.

Coordinator of Program Development

Based on YFU’s mission and goals, this position will coordinate the organization’s special projects, primarily short-term inbound programs, including community service program for German youth, diplomacy program for Japanese groups, theme-specific programs such as STEM and Politics/Debate for a number of countries primarily in Asia, Europe, and Latin America, as well as any other assigned projects and programs. The position assists the Director of Program Development in all aspects of program development, implementation, tracking, and client relationships. Core responsibilities include management of incoming student files, recruiting host families and maintaining meaningful ties with them, designing theme-specific schedules for incoming students, chaperoning the group or supervising a contract chaperon, recruiting and supervising temporary contractors, and forming partnerships with area high schools and organizations in targeted areas of the country. The position will also assist the Program Development team in the implementation of YFU programs and projects as needed. The position requires a candidate who is confident in representing YFU in a professional and knowledgeable manner, has a strong desire to successfully grow the programs, is a strong individual performer while also being a team player.

Summer Short-Term Program Coordinator

Youth For Understanding USA (YFU) is running two short-term programs this summer, one focused on STEM and the other on Politics and Debate. Globally-minded teenagers from around the world will join local American students in Washington, DC to learn about STEM or hone their debate skills, broaden their horizons on global issues, and forge lasting friendships. Throughout the two-week program, students will engage in English classes focused on STEM topics or speech and debate classes as well as undertake excursions that deepen their engagement with their topic. During their short time in the US, international students are placed with volunteer host families, who invite the students to be a part of their family for these two weeks. The students make lasting bonds with other students, their teachers, their host families, the volunteers, and the employees and contractors that work with them.

Summer Debate Coach

The debate format is flexible, and as international students may have varying levels of experience in both English and debate, the Debate Coach should be similarly adaptable. Host Family Recruiter

The role of Program Coordinator (PC) has three major parts: Program Logistics, Student Placement, and Program Execution. The PC will work to create the program schedule for a group of 15 German students and 2 chaperones for the time the students will be in town. The program should be focused on the theme of community service and will also include English classes (not the PC’s responsibility). PC will also be responsible for finalizing acceptable host family placements for all the participants and leading the group while they are in town April 13 through April 26, 2019.
